I have four cats and a dog. Okay, so I also have three hermit crabs (that are really my husband’s) and two water frogs (that are really my daughter’s), but the cost of their care is so minimal that it’s not even worth mentioning. But the cats? And the dog? Where should I start? Well, I can start by saying that I feed them Wellness. Wellness is a high end holistic brand that focuses on actual meat, vegetables, grains and high nutritional content, as opposed to the crap filler that’s found in discounted pet foods. The upside: healthy, nutritious food for my pets. The downside: it is expensive. I spend $35 for three weeks worth of cat food, and about $40 for a two month supply for my dog (she’s a Pug, which is why the bag lasts so much longer. I’d cry if she were a bigger dog!). Then there’s the cost of canned food, toys, cat litter, yearly vaccinations, etc.
But I do manage to save. One of the local pet stores, Pet Supplies Plus, continually has a $2 off a purchase of $30 or more…
