Today my best friend called to tell me about his dental dilemma. A few days ago he had an abscess in his mouth that was quite large and he had started taking antibiotics. Normally, he said, he has gotten small abscesses, but they’ve gone away on their own. This time he had to make an appointment to see the dentist.
It was assumed that it would be a routine visit to determine the cause of the abscess in the back of his mouth. When he left the dentist today he had had a front tooth pulled, which dislodged another front tooth that will more than likely fall out within the next week or so. And he had a surgical appointment to have three to four other teeth pulled. Why? Because the roots of his teeth have grown so long they’re extremely close to breaching the sinus cavity.
Thankfully he had dental insurance, but without that a dental emergency of this magnitude can set a person back a few thousand dollars. Some individuals rely on dental plans to offset the costs of dental work. <a…
